It's Just Not a Good Fit (...or Is It?)

Rejection is a part of life; specifically, it's a part of submitting crosswords. This rejected puzzle is presented just as it was submitted, with no edits, because why not?

The theme of this puzzle has a little something going on that I had hoped might bring me a little luck (...but maybe it backfired). It also has a little bit in common with my latest Lil AVC X, which is what inspired me to dig it out of the rejections pile.
